This video really
This video really encapsulates the mood of Brixton in 1981. Having studied these riots in my undergraduate degree in Sydney, Australia it is amazing to witness it visually. But what i find most astounding is that in 1995 I was caught in the Brixton riots on Acre Lane and the reasons for this riot were very similar to the riots of 1981. Has so much little changed? Does this mean the fight for civil and legal rights takes centuries rather than decades? And utlimately, what does this mean for the black community over time? I also wish to point out on the night when I was caught in the riots and my life was in danger is what black youths who got me home safely, not white people. And I am white.
